Inside the FOREVER LEGAL Internship Academy: A Firsthand Perspective from Intern Brianna Lewis

The FOREVER LEGAL Internship Academy was never intended to be an ordinary internship program. It was designed for individuals who understand that success is built through preparation, accountability, professionalism, and a willingness to be challenged. Each semester, Academy participants are entrusted with meaningful work, exposed to the realities of the legal profession, and encouraged to develop the habits that separate professionals from spectators. Designed for ambitious pre-law students, recent graduates, and aspiring law school applicants, the Academy serves as a professional readiness program that bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world experience. Of course, we could tell you what makes the Academy different. Instead, we asked the people who experienced it firsthand. To help future applicants better understand the program, we asked our interns a series of questions about their experience, including what they learned, what challenged them, what surprised them, and what advice they would give to those considering the Academy in the future. The responses that follow provide an honest look into the expectations, opportunities, growth, and realities of the FOREVER LEGAL Internship Academy through the voices of the interns themselves.

INSIDE THE ACADEMY: BRIANNA’S PERSPECTIVE.

Tell me something you learned in the program that you did not expect.

One of the most valuable things I learned during this program that I did not expect was how to think like a true boss! I came in expecting to gain knowledge about branding, navigating my law journey, and professional environments, but I did not anticipate developing a mindset centered around leadership, ownership, and decision-making. I learned how to approach situations with strategy, confidence, and accountability rather than hesitation. This meant thinking beyond just completing tasks and instead focusing on impact, execution, and results. It also pushed me to be more proactive and intentional in everything I contributed. Learning to think this way shifted how I view both opportunities and challenges. Overall, it was a mindset shift that I know will stay with me long after this program.

What is one skill you developed that you will carry forward?

One key skill I developed during this program is professional communication, particularly in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. I learned how to clearly express my ideas, whether through written communication, content creation, or team discussions. At the beginning, I was more hesitant to share my thoughts, but over time I became more confident in speaking up and contributing. I also improved my ability to tailor communication depending on the audience and the goal. This is a skill that will be essential in both my legal and business pursuits moving forward. It taught me that how you communicate can be just as important as what you are communicating. Overall, this growth has made me feel more prepared to navigate professional spaces with confidence.

How has this program changed the way you think about law or business?

This program completely changed how I view both law and business by giving me a firsthand look at what it takes to run a successful operation. Watching Attorney Tiara and everything that goes into building and maintaining a strong business has expanded my perspective beyond just the legal side. I now understand that being successful in law also requires strong leadership, branding, strategy, and consistency. It showed me that entrepreneurship and law are deeply connected, especially when you are building something of your own. This experience made me realize that I do not just want to practice law; I want to operate with the mindset of a business owner as well. It shifted how I think about long-term success and sustainability. Overall, it gave me a more well-rounded and realistic view of both fields.

What does FOREVER LEGAL Academy mean to you now versus when you started?

When I first started FOREVER LEGAL Internship Academy, I viewed it as a great opportunity to gain experience and perfect my branding techniques. Now, I see it as a transformative experience that has significantly shaped my mindset and professional direction. It has become more than just an internship; it represents growth, discipline, and stepping into a higher version of myself. The program challenged me to think bigger and hold myself to a higher standard. It also gave me a clearer sense of what I want for my future and how I plan to achieve it. My perspective has shifted from simply participating to truly valuing the long-term impact it has had on me. Now, it represents a foundation for everything I plan to build moving forward.

Tell me about a challenge you faced during the program and how you handled it.

One challenge I faced during the program was managing multiple responsibilities while maintaining a high level of quality in my work. At times, balancing deadlines, expectations, and creative output felt overwhelming. Instead of shutting down, I focused on becoming more organized and intentional with my time. I started prioritizing tasks, setting clear goals, and breaking larger assignments into smaller, manageable steps. I also learned to ask questions and seek clarity when needed, rather than trying to figure everything out on my own. Over time, this approach helped me become more efficient and confident in handling my workload. This challenge ultimately strengthened my time management and problem-solving skills.

What pushed you outside of your comfort zone the most?

What pushed me outside of my comfort zone the most was running point on multiple initiatives at the same time. Being responsible for managing different tasks and ensuring everything was executed well required me to step into a more leadership-driven role. Initially, it felt overwhelming to juggle multiple priorities while still maintaining quality and meeting expectations. However, I quickly realized that this level of responsibility was an opportunity for growth rather than something to shy away from. I had to become more organized, decisive, and confident in my abilities. This program also taught me how to receive feedback and criticism in a positive manner and use it as a crutch to make me better rather than taking it personally. Learning to apply feedback constructively helped me refine my work and improve my performance in real time. Although it pushed me, I genuinely enjoyed the challenge and the sense of ownership that came with it. Overall, it was one of the most rewarding and transformative parts of the experience.

What surprised you most about the program?

What surprised me most about the program was how hands on and immersive it was. I expected to learn, but I did not anticipate being so actively involved in real tasks and creative processes. The level of responsibility given to interns showed that the program truly values growth through experience. I was also surprised by how much emphasis was placed on mindset and personal development, not just technical skills. This made the experience feel more holistic and impactful. It pushed me to develop both professionally and personally at the same time. Overall, the depth of the experience exceeded my expectations.

How has this program prepared you for your future career?

This program has prepared me for my future career by helping me realize the true importance of soft skills and giving me the opportunity to strengthen them. As someone who plans to become a criminal defense attorney, I now understand that skills like communication, confidence, adaptability, and professionalism are just as critical as legal knowledge. The program pushed me to refine how I present myself, interact with others, and navigate professional environments. It also taught me how to think strategically and carry myself with intention. These are qualities that will directly impact how I advocate for clients and build trust in the future. Beyond technical preparation, it gave me the confidence to step into my career path with clarity. Overall, it has equipped me with both the mindset and skill set needed for long-term success.
